Tekken 8 is a few months away from launch, so we now know everyone who’s going to be featured on the game’s starting roster.
During tonight’s Tekken 8 showcase event, Bandai Namco released the trailer for Reina as the last playable character on its launch, and guess what? She is WILD!
Her First Line and I was already sold more on the game than I previously was. The fact that her voice matches her aggressive personality blows me away. Additionally, she will also play a part in Tekken 8’s story as a significant character.
Reina can fight using Mishima-style karate and Electric Wind Fist, which not only makes her a replacement for Heihachi but also an entirely new character. The developers have also confirmed that her move set contains Taido Karate style as well, as shown by her fast kicks (Lidia?).
Reina is nicknamed “Purple Lightning.” Her purple and black aesthetics seem to represent the two sides of her abilities, between her quick mobility and kicks and her powerful electric strikes, which somewhat resemble Lars.
She calls Jin “Senpai,” implying her close relationship with the Mishima clan. Even though her close relationship with the Mishima clan is implied, Jin and Kazuya don’t know who she is, which makes her somewhat mysterious.
Her heat smash is my favorite part; the way she Drags her opponent along the ground is impressive!
Reina rounds out Tekken 8’s sizable roster out the gate of 32 fighters following the recent reveals of Zafina, Lee, Alisa, and Devil Jin, followed by Victor Chevalier.
Alongside Azucena and Victor, Reina rounds out the only three newcomers to start next to 29 returning warriors spanning all eras of the series.
Tekken 8 is still scheduled to launch on January 26, 2024, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
